Tuesday, July 23rd, saw round two action of the 101st Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship at Belmont Hills Country Club. With the first round of match play finished in the Championship Division and the second round of stroke play completed in the Mid-Am, significant movement occurred in both the bracket and the standings.
In the Mid-Am Division, Allison Gonring holds a commanding lead over her competition. Gonring shot a +8 (80) in round two actions, taking her two-day total to +11, 31 strokes better than second place. The highlights of Allison’s round were her birdies on the par-4 8th and the par-5 12th.
The Championship Divison bracket saw many upsets after day one of match play. Notable upsets include:
25th seed Mia Raines defeated 8th seed Mia Ringger 1 up.
24th seed Sydney Deal defeated 9th seed Sydney Devore 1 up.
29th seed Eva Lim defeated 4th seed Meadow Tian 1 up.
27 seed Gracyn Vidovic defeated 6th seed Zoe Luebbers 4 & 3.
The top seeds, Gabby Woods, Sabrina Coffman, and Cara Heistercamp, all continued to take care of business on the course today, winning their matches. The most dominant win of the day came from 16-seed Alexa Prettyman, who bested 17th-seed Nala Chebli with a match score of 6 & 5. Prettyman and Chebli traded winning holes early on in the round, but holes 7 through 13 were all Prettyman, winning 6 of the 7.
