The 101st Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship ended on Thursday, July 25th, 2024. After four long days, multiple weather delays, and six rounds of golf, Gabby Woods claimed victory at Belmont Hills Country Club.
Woods came out on top in a true battle of attrition and punched her ticket to the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Woods started off hot in her final round against the #3 seed Cara Heisterkamp, going 1-up after one hole. Gabby expanded her lead for the rest of the front nine, adding to it on holes 4, 6, and 7, taking Heisterkamp to 4-up at the turn. On the back nine, Woods won holes 10 and 11, Heisterkamp won 13, then Woods finished the match on hole 14, winning 5 & 4.
In bracket #2, Isabella Goyette earned her first-place finish, defeating Maddie Shoults in a dominant fashion, 6 & 5. After dropping the first hole of the match to Shoults, Goyette proceeded to win or tie 7 of the next 12 holes on her way to her first-place finish in her bracket. The road to get there wasn’t easy for Goyette. She beat 14 seed Olivia Baker 2&1, 11 seed Gianna Reginelli 3&2, and 2 seed Paige Treherne 1 up.
In bracket #3, Emily Holzopfel won after defeating 6-seed Alexis Grey in the finals. The match was almost all Holzopfel; she jumped out to a commanding 4-up the lead after the front 9. On the back, she won three of the next four holes and was crowned champion. Before taking down Grey in the finals, Holzopfel defeated 7-seed Eliza Mercer 2 up, 3-seed Annelise Stensel 8 & 6, and 11-seed Trynity Wolfe 5 & 4.
