A score of 59 with a hole-in-one: that’s what Chris Okeson and Rob Schustrich accomplished in Week 16 of the Chippewa Scratch League.
Through five holes, Okeson and Schustrich had a competitive score going in the aggregate Shamble format on the front side at Chippewa. They sat at 3-under par, a decent start.
But then Okeson holed a side-spinning wedge on the par-3 sixth hole that disappeared for an ace, good for 4-under par on the hole. They followed that with a birdie/par total on both the seventh and eighth holes. At the finishing ninth, they each hit 100+ yard wedge shots to within five feet and converted the putts.
Total: 11-under par 59 with an ace — good for a 7-shot win in a 9-hole league!
It would have been a clean sweep of the Week 16 pot, too, had the Berkheimer brothers, Dennis and Bob, not snuck out a double-birdie skin at the 7th.
The big haul adds returns Schustrich back to the top the 2020 Leaderboard while cracking four figures, and moves Okeson into second place. Just two weeks remain in the 2020 season: a scramble on the back nine next week Monday, followed by the 6/6/6 Steak Night finale on Monday, Sep 28th…
